WINE TASTING
Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta was founded in 1895 in Haro by Félix Martínez Lacuesta. A winemaker, lawyer, politician and publicist, he was the first president of the National Association of Winegrowers and Wine Industries, as well as of the Rioja Wine Union. He was also one of the creators of the Regulating Board of D.O. Rioja, where he represented his fellow winemakers.
A classic combination of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo that takes us back to the origins of great Rioja wines. Produced only in the finest vintages, allows Martinez Lacuesta to bottle exceptional wines.
Colección Familia comes from vineyards located in the municipality of Haro and its surroundings which were planted more than 40 years ago. The altitude ranges between 430m and 500m above sea level, in an area where the predominant soil is claylimestone.
Harvesting of the plots destined for the Colección Familia began on 1 October. It was carried out in 10 kg boxes, respecting the bunches of grapes. After destemming, alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak vats. Malolactic fermentation started spontaneously and lasted 90 days. In the spring of 2014 the wine began its ageing in American oak barrels of third use. During the 36 months in oak barrels, we carried out 6 manual gravity rackings. manual racking by gravity, a method that characterises Martínez Lacuesta’s style of work at Martínez Lacuesta and defines the personality of our wines. Colección Familia, once bottled, evolves unhurriedly, to become a fine and elegant Gran Reserva.
Bright and attractive garnet colour, of medium intensity. Very aromatic, with a perfume of black fruits, spicy and balsamic. Tertiary aromas of roasted coffee and dry flowers. Fresh, clean and balanced on the palate. Rich texture and complexity of flavours with silky tannin and a lingering finish. Colección Familia 2012 is at an excellent moment for its enjoyment and at the same time, it is ready for long cellaring
