BASCO LIMITED EDITION WINE
We are delighted and proud to share with you the launch of our first limited edition Ribera Del Duero wine from our own aged barrel as part of Basco’s exclusive membership to Bodegas Valduero’s La Tenada wine club. This is a real opportunity to taste a wine from one of the world’s most prestigious wine clubs that only private members can access.
Bodegas Valduero has created a club which brings together major stars of the universal literature, sports, entertainment and arts such as Spanish tenor Placido Domingo, footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, Spanish Michelin star chefs Martín Berasategui and Elena Arzak, Dire Straits leadman Mark Knopfler, Spanish fashion designer Agatha Ruíz De La Prada and tennis player Feliciano López to name a few.
HAND-SELECTED BY BASCO
We have carefully curated the selection and ageing of this wine thanks to the work of our Managing Director Javier De La Hormaza and Bodegas Valduero’s owner Yolanda García Viadero, who have personally selected our own special unique blend of Valduero Una Cepa which has aged for 18 months in barrel and 12 months in bottle before our release. As part of our membership, we signed a personalised barrel with our name on it, in a vaulted cellar excavated 20 metres into the hillside. This signature is assigned a title and membership number, which can be seen in Valduero’s emblematic cellars.
THE WINE
Valduero Una Cepa is one of the most emblematic wines produced by the historic Valduero winery located in Ribera del Duero. A single-variety Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) created from top-quality grapes grown on low-yield vines over 50 years old. To be precise, their 2600 plants produce 2600 kilograms of fruit. That is, each plant produces one bottle of wine and hence its name; Una Cepa (one vine).
WINE MAKING
The bush vines are not irrigated and no chemical fertilizers are used, just sheep manure. Strict pruning is carried out both in winter and in the growing season, and manual harvesting ensures only the best grapes are chosen. This painstaking process means yields are three times as low as with trellis-trained vines cultivated for high production — but the quality of the grapes is sublime. The fruit is usually harvested during the first week of October collected in small 14kg crates. The grape must is fermented for nine days at controlled temperatures and then macerated with the grape skins for ten more days. The resulting wine is aged in barrels for 18 months and left to stand in the bottle for a further twelve months to achieve a perfect balance between power and elegance.

WINE TASTING
Valduero Una Cepa has an intense picota cherry colour and extraordinarily intense aromas. A complex and balanced wine, it offers a perfect blend of fruit and wood with delightful aromas of toast and vanilla, wild red fruit and leather, spices and lavender. Well-structured in the mouth with a perfect combination of alcohol and acidity, it has a fine elegant finish just as you would expect from a splendid example of a great Ribera del Duero red wine.
FOOD PAIRING
Particularly good with red meats, all types of charcuterie but in particular our bellota ham from Arturo Sanchez, cured cheeses, grilled oily fish such as tuna and salmon and dishes with rich sauces.

The Source
Bodegas Valduero
Bodegas Valduero was established by Gregorio García Álvarez in 1984, when only 30 wineries existed in Ribera del Duero. For over three decades, the region has flourished and so has the Bodega. Today, Gregory’s daughter Yolanda, one of Spain’s top oenologist, runs the 150-hectare estate helped with her sister Carolina who oversees the commercial side of the business. Their wines have won many awards and are renowned for their structure, freshness and complexity. They need time to reveal all their potential and for this reason only Reserva and Gran Reserva wines are being made in the best years. Traditionally, the vines are trained as low bush – producing very low yields – and planted exclusively with Tempranillo at 800 meters high. Very poor and dry soils combined with the harsh climatic conditions of the area – with cold winter and hot summer – are ideal for making wines of long life with great power. The state of the art winery is sustainable using gravity to transport the freshly pressed must to the wine barrels which are stored in three underground tunnels. Yolanda believes long maturation in both barrel and bottle is absolutely necessary and meticulously selects each barrel to produce powerful and elegant wines that will last for decades.
