WHAT IS CHORIZO VELA PICANTE?
Like Basco Chorizo Vela Dulce, Chorizo Vela Picante is a slicing sausage made in the Rioja region with the same smoky, garlic flavour. However, in the case of Vela Picante the spicy, chili-hot version of the Pimenton de la Vera is used which makes a chorizo sausage with a little more punch and a chili kick. In every other sense the sausage is the same; made by Martinez Somalo, using the thick cuts of pork to make a lean and meaty sausage with that distinctive lush red colour and smoky flavour.
HOW TO SERVE CHORIZO VELA?
Vela Picante Chorizo is fully cured meaning that it is ready to eat without any further cooking. At 1.5kg it is an ideal size for slicing and serving as a tapa with jamon, olives or manchego cheese. Alternatively, you slice Vela Picante Chorizo into the traditional Spanish bocadillo sandwich.
STORAGE
Chorizo Vela Picante is gluten-free and refrigerated will keep up to 6 months unopened. Once opened the sausage will need to be wrapped tightly in cling-film and used within 3 weeks.

Martinez Somalo (La Rioja)
Martinez Somalo was founded in 1901 by Don Jose Martinez Campo. Don Jose was part of a large family and several siblings were dedicated to the manufacturing and sale of meat products. At that time products derived from the pork raw material and Don Jose would trade them in his hometown and closest villages. The processing plant was called “La Gloria Riojana”. La Gloria Riojana was at that time a small manufacturing plant located in Baños de Rio Tobia (La Rioja), where the company is located at the moment. The own characteristics of the Baños de Rio Tobia village, at 600 meters above sea level, located in the valley of the river Najerilla and surrounded by mountains, allowed cold winters, hot summers and springs and mild autumns, which created the perfect micro climate that would favour the elaboration and drying of pork derived products. Since May 2011, the company is being managed by the fourth family generation, maintaining the family spirit, but with the support of valuable and reliable professionals in management positions. Martinez Somalo is a company committed to people, to the village, where it is located, Baños de Rio Tobia and its region.
