 WINE TASTING

Bodegas Vega Sicilia have been producing high quality wines for over 150 years, giving them an incredible historic legacy. The estate is located in Ribera del Duero, one of Spain’s most prestigious wine regions. Producers in this area strictly follow traditional winemaking methods and are meticulous to the details. Vega Sicilia Unico is a world-class wine produced by the famous winery and is considered one of the most iconic and sought-after wines from Spain. This wine represents the pinnacle of quality and excellence this region and producer have to offer.

The 2013 vintage is a blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, grown on the estate’s own vineyard in the region. The wine is aged for a minimum of 6 years, this breaks down to 3 years spent in barrel and 3 years in bottle.

The resulting wine has expressive fruity character, complexity, elegance, and a long aging potential. On the nose, the wine is deep and intense, with dark fruit aromas, black cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant, alongside subtle notes of spices, leather, tobacco, and cedar. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with rich firm tannins, balanced well by subtle acidity and with a long and persistent finish.

FOOD PAIRING

Best served with beef, lamb, or game dishes. This wine is ready to drink now, but also has good ageing potential to keep into the mid 2030’s.

    The Source

    Vega Sicilia

Vega Sicilia, Spain’s “first growth” and most prestigious wine estate, is located in Ribera del DueroIt was founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves and has changed hands several times before its acquisition by the current owners, the Álvarez family, in 1982. The estate’s success is founded on its meticulous approach. In the vineyard it applies low yields, aided by green harvesting and painstaking selection at harvest. In the winery, wines are aged in any number of receptacles – using French and American, new and old oak, small barrels or huge vats – to engender further complexity. Despite prolonged barrel ageing, the fruit is never dried out or overly oaky – compelling evidence of the superb quality of its raw materials. Vega Sicilia has now built up a portfolio which includes Bodegas Alion (providing a more modern expression of Ribera del Duero),  Bodegas Pintia (in the emerging region Toro), Macán (a partnership with Benjamin de Rothschild) and the Hungarian Tokaji estate, Oremus.
