Discovered in 1775, the source of Alzola Basque Mineral Water is located in the district of the same name in the municipality of Elgoibar (Gipuzkoa) on the Deba river valley and surrounded by mountains with steep slopes. This Basque mineral water was declared fit for public consumption in 1843.
Alzola water emerges spontaneously at a constant temperature of 29°C throughout the year from a depth of 700m, from a thermal hydrological unit that comes from a limestone called Izarraitz. This limestone works as a sponge and filter, giving Alzola Basque Water its unique properties and chemical composition. The limestone is completely watertight and independent of other existing springs in the area with the same or similar source.
Alzola water is well balanced and rich in good minerals, providing a versatile, refreshing water with a subtlety sweet flavour. Recently, Alzola water was awarded with the first International Blind Tasting Prize of Milenium Waters celebrated in Bilbao, beating some of the most prestigious national and international brands of mineral water. Alzola Basque Mineral Water is also the official water of Bilbao's football team Athletic Club, who are known to carefully sellect their sponsors.
